Is MailKey free?
Yes for people, always. Businesses use the console free during the beta.
What does someone see when they look up my key?
A masked preview: your first name, last initial, city and state. They only get your full name and address after confirming with you and claiming the record. Depending on your settings, that claim may wait for your approval.
What if I move?
Update your address once, with the date you move. Everyone who holds your address receives the new one on that date.
What if someone I cut off still knows my key?
Rotate it. The old key stops working, and you choose which businesses and friends keep access under the new one.
Will my name come back spelled the way I typed it?
Yes. Spelling, capitalization and spacing are kept as you entered them, so "DeCaprio" stays "DeCaprio". The address is standardized against USPS data.
Do you check that I live at the address?
No. MailKey standardizes the address but does not verify residence. It asks you once a year to confirm, and returned-mail reports prompt a check.
Can my family share one account?
Yes. An account can hold a whole household, including children and other dependents. A child's key always needs a parent's approval.
Does it work outside the US?
Not yet. Version 1 handles US addresses only.
Do I need an app?
MailKey runs as a web app you can add to your home screen. It can send push notifications for approvals, and you can add your key to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Does MailKey sell my data?
Never.
How do I delete my account?
From the account screen. Every grant is revoked, businesses are notified, and your personal data is removed within 30 days. You can export it all as JSON first.
I run a business that takes addresses by phone. Can I use it?
Yes. See the business page for the console.
